ESG Analyst

Work with Regnan, a leader in Environment Social & Governance (ESG) research, part of the Pendal Group, and participate in driving change towards more sustainable financial markets. As ESG Analyst at Regnan, your focus will be on energy and climate change issues, stocks in the energy and utilities sectors, and stocks where energy inputs are a potentially material source of risk.

This role is ideally suited to candidates passionate about utilising their analytical capabilities, along with a thirst for knowledge, to make a difference in sustainability outcomes as part of the investment process.

Essential to success in the role is the ability to analyse complex and changing environments, draw evidence-based conclusions and effectively communicate these findings – in written and verbal formats – to key stakeholders both internally at Regnan and externally to Australian business and the investment community.

Key elements of this role include:

  • Conducting research utilising proprietary ESG frameworks, analysing ESG factors and value-drivers for ASX-listed stocks, and benchmarking ESG performance.

  • Documentation of research and assessment results.

  • Communication (written and verbal) of analysis internally, and to clients as required e.g. stock reports, thematic reports, presentations, alerts, etc.

  • Participation in meetings with businesses we research, including preparing engagement plans and meeting notes, briefing team members and documenting meetings.

  • Responding to client queries.

  • Contributing to advocacy activities, such as formal submissions and thought pieces, in particular those involving energy and climate change.

  • Participating in advisory projects for both internal and external clients where energy and climate change issues are a key focus, such as climate change portfolio/scenario analysis and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) reporting.

Candidates for this role could come from a number of different backgrounds including financial, engineering, science, business and journalism. Key requirements for this role include:

  • Tertiary degree qualification, or equivalent in work experience in relevant field

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a similar or relevant role

  • Depth of understanding of climate change as a business/investment risk of energy/utilities/energy intensive sectors from a financial/economic perspective

  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills

  • Advanced communication skills, including superior writing skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior business professionals

  • Strong capability with Microsoft Excel

  • Results-focused with a high degree of professionalism

  • Proven organisational and information management skills

  • Strong team orientation

  • Self-directed, methodical approach to work

  • Collegiate and open in work style
